Ghetto Life (day)

Ghetto Life focuses mainly on the populated areas of the capital city Gaborone and the suburban centres that form part of greater Gaborone.
The realities of ’ghetto life’ could only truly be captured through a photographic lens, which better tells the story than other mediums. It focuses on pictures of households in popular ghetto areas, such as Naledi, which is densely populated and is characterized by its mixture of urban and rural settings, along with other areas within the periphery of the city.
These areas, such as Tsolamosese, Mogoditshane and Tlokweng, to name but a few, were captured at both night (without using a flash light) and during the day.
Conducted in early April 2006 in Gaborone, the entire project lasted three weeks. This work, the result of a workshop led by the photographer Bruno Boudjelal, was exhibited for the first time in September 2006 during the Nouvelles africaines exhibition in Paris.
